Valeria Campo
I am an acting teacher, coach, internationally renowned expert in Commedia dell’ Arte, director of theatre, contemporary circus, opera, curator of festivals and spectacular events. I have a background in visual arts and I design sets, masks and costumes of my theatre and circus productions. From 2014 I am Head of the Circus Arts Commission and a member of the Theatre, Dance, Music Multidisciplinary Commission of MiBact, the Italian Ministry of Arts, Heritage and Tourism based in Rome.
I own a diploma in Acting from the Theatre School of prestigious Teatro Stabile of Genova, where I studied Acting and specialized in Commedia dell’ Arte with master teacher Marcello Bartoli. I was among the founders of Archivolto Theatre Company of Genova and a member of the iconic ensemble for more than ten exciting years as an actress, designer, director.
While based in Italy and with strong Italian theatrical roots I devote passion and energy to cross- cultural projects as visiting director and Commedia dell’ Arte expert at drama academies, universities, circus schools, theatres in Europe, Australia, Canada. I introduced Commedia dell’ Arte training into major theatre schools in Asia: HKAPA Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, Lasalle College of the Arts School of Theatre and Dance (Sg), K-Arts South Korea National University of Arts, Seoul . In 2018 I am guest director and lecturer on Commedia dell’ Arte at the Directing Department of Beijing Central Academy of Drama.
I alternate an artistic curating activity with the creation of theatre and contemporary circus projects having collaborated among the others with: École Nationale de Cirque de Montréal, where I wrote and directed Circo Paradiso after extended Commedia and mask training with the Canadian circus artists; NICA National Institute of Circus Arts , Melbourne (Au), where I wrote and directed DiVino Circus, a theatre circus show which premiered at Melbourne Festival, coproducer of the show; Civic Theatre School Paolo Grassi (Milan), where in 2017 I was among the curators and a lecturer of the course Semplicemente Circo.
